What happens when a comedian who's spent 30 years writing one-liners starts illustrating greeting cards?
This, apparently.
Stewart Francis is a Canadian comedian who built much of his career in the UK — and somewhere along the way, became one of the country's most recognisable faces in comedy. You may know him from his twelve appearances on Mock the Week, his two specials on Live at the Apollo, or perhaps as the man who won the Edinburgh Fringe Funniest Joke of the Year in 2012. (The joke was about a dictionary. It was a solid entry.)
He is, to put it plainly, very good at being concise. A master of the one-liner. A man who can say something ridiculous in under ten words and make you snort tea out of your nose.
As it turns out, those same instincts — the precision, the timing, the commitment to a bit — translate surprisingly well into greeting cards.
Every card in this collection is written and illustrated by Stewart himself. Not a design team. Not a freelancer who was briefed on "the vibe." Stewart. With his actual hands. The same hands that have gestured awkwardly at audiences across the UK for three decades.
The result is a range of cards that feel genuinely different from what you'll find in the average card shop. They're funny without trying too hard. They're honest without being bleak. They're the kind of card that makes the recipient wonder why most greeting cards are so terrible, and then feel grateful that this one isn't.
Each card is 5" × 7", printed on premium coated card stock, and comes with an envelope. The inside is blank — because you're the one who knows what to say next. (Or you don't, and you're buying the card to avoid that exact responsibility. Either way, we support you.)
Whether you're after something for a birthday, a thank you, a "thinking of you," or the specific and deeply relatable sentiment of "I saw this and thought of you, which tells you something about how I think of you" — there's probably a card for that.
Have a browse. We hope something makes you laugh.
